Also known as: NICOISE Area of origin: FRANCE TREE: A vigorous variety that becomes a large tree with downward drooping branches. This is the main variety of the Alps Maratime region near Nice. FRUIT: The olives are small in size, ovoid in shape with a high oil content. The olives are cured black around Nice, hence called Nicoise. The are also used to make a delicate tasting oil. AGRONOMY: Propagated easily from cuttings. Bearing is generally intermediate and constant. COMMENTS: Good resistance to cold but sensitive to the olive fly and also very sensitive to olive scale and olive knot. |
