SALONENQUE
Also known as: PLANT de SALON
Area of origin: France

TREE: Widely planted in the Bouches du Rhône - over 60 % of the acreage. The tree is of average or smaller size with a spreading, low, globular shape. The leaves are elliptic-lanceolate and short and narrow.

FRUIT: The fruit is of average weight, ovoid and symmetrical in shape with a high pulp to pit ratio. The fruit is used for both oil (with a medium to high %) and table (for split green olives). The fruit is freestone.

AGRONOMY: This variety has a low rooting ability and an intermediate start of bearing. It flowers early and ripens late. The tree is partly self-compatible and has a low pistil abortion rate. Grossane is a pollenator. Production is constant and high.

COMMENTS: This is a rustic variety with good resistance to cold, drought, olive fly and olive leaf spot. It can be grown in poorer soil although it adapts well to good farming practices.
